KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Thursday that repeated reestablishment of encroachments in Saddar was causing problems for people and traffic; therefore, non-bailable cases should be registered against the encroachers.
He said this while presiding over a meeting with steering committee of Beautification of Saddar Program.
Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui, DIG Traffic Arif Hanif, Senior Director Technical and Services Department Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Syed Hyder Ali, SSP South, Syed Suleman, Secretary Regional Transport Authority Ghazanfar Ali Qadri, Chief Implementation Unit City District Government Karachi Commissioner Office Engineer Syed Muhammad Shakib, Assistant Commissioner Saddar Sajjad Abro and other relevant officers were also present.
“People who are hurdle in beautification of Saddar and making it ugly by establishing encroachments would be accountable for that,” the commissioner said.
The meeting decided to make Saddar and adjoining areas beautiful, expedite work in this regard and take strict action against encroachers.
The commissioner said that encroachment would not be allowed to re-establish in Saddar, Empress Market and adjoining areas. He also told the meeting that a large number of people have expressed gratification to governor of Sindh regarding anti-encroachment drive in Saddar.
The meeting was told that rerouting of transport has been completed, while, work regarding lane marking and sign boards was going on.
It was also decided in the meeting that a camp would be established on permanent basis in Empress Market to remove encroachments.
Siddiqui constituted a caretaking committee for this project comprising SP Saddar, municipal commissioner DMC south and assistant commissioner Saddar.
