NPIW employees hold protest for regularization

KARACHI: Employees of National Program Improvement of Water (NPIW) Sindh on Tuesday held a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club against the Sindh government for not regularizating them since 11 years.

The demonstrators, carrying placards and banners, raised slogans against the government for compelling them to work on contract basis over the last 11 years. The protest was led by Sajjad Ahmed Korejo, Shaik Lakher, Wajid Mohammadi and Ashfaq Ahmed Shaikh.

Talking to PPI, the leaders said about 1500 persons were appointed in NPIW throught the test conducted by Bahria University in 2004-05. After the this long period, they filed a petition in Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) one year ago which issued the order for regularizing them. The leaders said Sindh government also passed a bill for regularization of contract employees through the Contract and Advance Regularization Act in 2013, but they could still not be regularized.

Wajid said a team was formed to hold talks with Secretary Agriculture Shahid Gulzar Shaikh to discuss the matter in which the secretary said that their summery had been sent to finance department, while the degrees of 110 employees had been sent to Higher Education Commission (HEC) Sindh for verification. He assured their problem will be resolve within a week.

They said after long consideration, they had decided to hold protest outside the KPC. They said employees belonging to different districts of Sindh had been deprived of their salaries. They said they would continue their protest till their demands are met.

They appealed to SC and COAS General Raheel Sharif to pay attention to their issue and help resolve it on humanitarian basis.
