Numerous initiatives being introduced in the Information Department, Secretary Information

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Information & Public Relations, Mohammad Abid Majeed on Wednesday said that numerous reforms initiatives were being introduced in the Information Department to boost its performance in consonance with the requirements of the speedy media of the present era.

Talking to a 7-member delegation of the officers of Press Information Department, Islamabad and probationers of the Information Services Academy Islamabad here at Civil Secretariat, he said that besides other measures, the development of an Automated Information & Reporting System (AIRS) at the Directorate of Information with the assistance of Governance Support Program (GSP) was in the final stages of completion which would not only help the department effectively portray the policies, programs and reforms initiatives of the provincial government through mass media but also contribute towards generating instant response on key events and issues through the concerned government functionaries. The Director Information Shuaib-ud-Din and other senior officers of the Department were also present on the occasion.

This new approach, he informed, is basically a strategic two-way communication which will make the government machinery more responsive towards its responsibilities and ultimately help in removing the communication gap between the government and the citizens, improving good governance in the province, eradicating social ills as well as addressing public grievances at the earliest.

The Secretary Information also informed the delegation about the various functions performed by the department with regard to issuance of advertisements, publicity of the reforms initiatives, publicity of ministers and other government functionaries, media relations, regulatory functions of the department under the law and replied the queries asked by members of the delegation.

The delegation, which comprised Ashiq Hussain, Director Information Services Academy (ISA), Omar Khan, Deputy Director ISA, Shahid Ranjha, Deputy Director PID, Aqdas Shaukat, Information Officer, PID, Dr. Rizwan, Information Officer PID, Taimur Khan, Assistant Director ISA and Shafay Ali Shah, Assistant Director ISA evinced keen interest in the reforms being introduced in the department and appreciated them.

The delegation was of the view that these reforms were indispensable for meeting the emerging challenges in the field of media and stressed the need for their replication at the federal government level too as well as other provinces.

The delegation thanked the Provincial Information Department for the detailed presentation and hospitality given to members of the delegation and exchanged souvenirs.
