One dies as fire erupts in garments factory

KARACHI: A man died of suffocation when fire reputed in a garments factory in Nazimabad area here on Thursday.

The fire erupted in a factory at Hadi Market of Nazimabad this morning. Rescue and fire fighting personnel rushed to the scene. Ten fire tenders were used to extinguish the fire.

Rescue officials said that the fire erupted at the basement of the factory building.

Fire brigade officials said that a man who was watchman of the factory trapped inside the fire in building and died of suffocation. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital for medico-legal formalities.

A large quantity of garments stock and machinery worth hundreds of thousands of rupees were gutted in the factory fire.

The fire was brought under control after nine hours. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
