ISLAMABAD: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 80% Pakistanis claim support for the two-nation theory.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “It is usually said that Pakistan was created on the basis of the two nation theory.
According to this, Hindus and Muslims have always held a separate identity on the basis of religion which is why they cannot live within the same country. In 1947, many Muslims supported this view with full enthusiasm while a few others did not support it.
Suppose you were a mature adult in 1947. Would you have supported the two nation theory at that time or not?” In response to this question 80% said yes while 19% said no and 1% did not respond.
The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1756 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during December 07 – December 14, 2015. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
