Opposition leader sees danger to democracy

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party Leader and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that democracy seems to be in danger in prevailing situation while Nawaz Sharif was afraid of rallies and protests despite having two-third majority in the assembly.

Talking to media during his visit to PPP media cell in Karachi, Shah said that if prime mister was afraid of the current situation, then there could be a danger to democracy.

“I had warned Nawaz Sharif several times to become a real democratic prime minister,” he said adding that the democracy could be challenged if a single drop of dictatorship is mixed in it.

He said that General (retd) Pervez Musharraf had treated Nawaz Sharif in the same like Tahirul Qadri was being treated by Nawaz. “Nawaz Sharif was not allowed to join his father’s funeral,” he said adding that he felt dangers for democracy in the current scenario.

He said that Nawaz had got votes of 15 million people but he was afraid of the person who had neither public support nor representation in the parliament.

“I ask Nawaz Sharif to come out of General Zia’s effects,” he said adding that Shahbaz Sharif facilitated Qadri for long march during PPP tenure but now they were creating problems for him.
