Pak bowling team returns from Russia with a silver medal

Karachi: The four-member national bowling team arrived in Islamabad on Monday night from Russia after winning silver medal in doubles category in Saint Petersburg Double Bowling Open Championship 2015.

Ijaz-ur-Rehman, Ahmer Saldar, Zafar Iqbal and Ali Suria were the part of the national contingent.

The pair of top national players – Ijaz-ur-Rehman and Ahmer Saldar claimed silver medal in doubles event.

Local Russian players Sidrove and Vaslove Veldmir beat Pakistani duo by 40 points.

The winners aggregated 571 points in two games competition while green shirts put 531 points on board after playing two games.

While talking to media, Ijaz-ur-Rehman said that 18 countries participated in the Saint Petersburg Open Championship.

“Despite of having low standard facilities of bowling in the country our team produced remarkable results and grabbed the silver medal in the international bowling showpiece. It is an outstanding performance from our players,” he said.

Responding to a question Ijaz ur Rehman, who is also secretary of Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF), said that Pakistan might bring more laurels in the game of bowling if the players were provided with international standard facilities.

“We are lacking the facilities. Otherwise, we can excel at international arena and produce better results,” he signed off.
