Pakistan attaches importance to its relations with EU countries: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said Pakistan was deeply interested in its engagement with the European Parliament and stressed for devising a mechanism for regular consultations between the two parliaments.

Talking to a delegation of European Parliament here at the PM House, the Prime Minister said Pakistan attaches greater importance to its relations with the European Union.

He noted with satisfaction that GSP Plus status had benefitted Pakistan as its exports to EU had increased to around US $1 billion. Responding to a question, he said the Kashmir issue should be resolved in the light of UN Resolutions.

He expressed resolve to eradicating the menace of terrorism from the country. The delegates informed the Prime Minister that this was their first formal visit to Pakistan during present government’s tenure. They extended condolences over the tragic Peshawar incident.

The delegation comprised Lars Gunnar Wigemark and Jean Lambort, Richard Howitt, Michael Galhar and Sajjad Karim. National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry were also present during the meeting.
