Pakistan calls for ban on use, production of lethal weapons

Geneva: Pakistan has called for an immediate ban on the use and production of Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems or Killer Robots.

The call has been made by Pakistan’s permanent representative, Ambassador Zamir Akram while speaking at a meeting of experts on the subject in Geneva.

He said the ban should come through a dedicated protocol under the framework of UN Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons.

The Pakistan envoy said several developing and non-aligned countries are pleading for an immediate moratorium on production and use of such lethal weapons till the time such a ban is imposed.
