Passage of Consumer Protection Act lauded

KARACHI: President Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Prof Dr Abdul Wahab, on Tuesday welcomed the approval of Consumer Protection Act 2014 by Sindh Assembly this week and termed it the need of the hour.

In a press statement, he said that people of Pakistani had been forced to purchase substandard and adulterated consumer products at higher rates since a long time and legislation on this important issue was a right step towards right direction for providing them relief.

Dr Wahab said that process of the establishment of Consumer Courts under this Act be carried out immediately across the province for speedy trial of consumer complaints and to take strict action against those traders involved in the sale of substandard products through misleading advertising campaign.

He said that implementation of Consumer Protection Act 2014 should be followed in letter and spirit; otherwise, it would only be a piece of paper like other laws approved.
