Phaco machine not functioning in Lyari Hospital

KRACHI: The Phaco machine is not functioning in Sindh Government’s Lyari General Hospital Karachi over the last one month, while hospital administration has not issued tender for repairing it yet, it was learned on Wednesday.

An official of hospital told PPI that Phaco machine had developed some fault over one month ago which had compelled patients with cataract surgery requirement to go anywhere else. The hospital administration has not issued tender for maintenance of this machine yet, causing hardships to visiting patients.

The patients are being advised by doctors to go anywhere else for surgical procedures as machine was not functioning in the healthcare. He said the Phaco is a sophisticated machine which had made cataract surgery safest and most effective surgical procedures in the world. He said now the cataract surgery procedure requires less than 15 minutes per eye through Phaco machine.

Medical Superintendent, Lyari General Hospital, Dr Aziz Soomro, when contacted, confirmed that Phaco machine was not functioning. He said hospital administration will issue tender soon for repairing the diagnostic machines in the healthcare.
