LAHORE:,,, Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) on Tuesday welcomed LCCI Trade Mission to France, Germany, Belgium and Bosnia and termed it a step in right direction to avail the benefit of GSP Plus status granted by the European Union.
In a statement issued here the Chairman PIAF Malik Tahir Javaid said that the government should redesign its export policy in the light of the recommendations of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He said that unless and until a new policy is implemented, considerable increase in the export to European countries would remain a dream.
He said that much smaller countries than Pakistan were doing bigger exports therefore a little effort on the part of the Pakistani diplomats working abroad could bring sea change.
Malik Tahir Javaid said that facilitation to the manufacturing sector was a key to the success therefore the government should come up with a package of incentives to the industry keeping in view the shortage of electricity and gas in the country.
The PIAF Chairman said that there was no dearth of resources in Pakistan as it has a four-weather season, plenty of water, huge minerals, best irrigation system and third largest reserves of coal. He said that all our weaknesses are only due to non implementation of right policies. Had policies been implanted in the past, the situation today would have been quite encouraging.
He said that the country’s progress and prosperity lies in the promotion of trade and economic activities therefore all possible measures should be taken towards this cause.
