PM: (Govt believes in freedom of media: PM)

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that media has an important role to play in eliminating terrorism, extremism and sectarianism from the country.

He was talking to his (PM) Special Assistant Irfan Siddiqui and Head of Committee on Media Code of Conduct who called on him here on Thursday.

The Prime Minister said the role of media with reference to national interest and development of the country is of vital importance and the Government completely believes in the freedom of media.

He said consensus on media Code of Conduct is very positive progress. He expressed the hope that serious efforts will be made for implementation of media Code of Conduct.

The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of Committee on Media Code of Conduct. Irfan Siddiqui gave a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister on media’s code of conduct.
