ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt General Rizwan Akhtar called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here Monday and discussed matters pertaining to internal and external security, particularly forthcoming withdrawal of Nato troops from Afghanistan.
General Akhtar took the reins of ISI on November 7 and this was his second meeting with the premier after assuming charge. During the meeting, which lasted for an hour, the ISI head and the premier discussed national issues as well as security challenges being faced by the country.
The premier will be attending South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit this week which follows some of the worst cross-border violence in Kashmir in a decade, and comes as Nato-led troops prepare to pull out of Afghanistan, intensifying the India-Pakistan rivalry as the countries vie for influence there.
