PML-Q demands resignation from aviation officials

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Haleem Adil Shaikh on Thursday demanded of the government to immediately remove Special Assistant to PM on Aviation Shujaat Azeem and Director General Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Mohammad Yousuf over their failure to save lives of seven people trapped in cold storage in airport.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Adil said that the provincial and federal governments had shown criminal negligence in saving lives of people trapped in cold storage. “Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and someone from Sindh government should also resign from their posts over this disaster,” he said.

He said that lack of facilities by federal and provincial governments caused the incident. “Neither Civil Aviation nor municipal authorities in Karachi have sufficient fire tenders to overcome fire at cold storage which resulted in the deaths of seven people,” he said, adding that NDMA and PDMA also failed to perform their duties of acting on the time of disaster.

He said that the current rulers had lost justification to rule the country as promises made by them to overcome electricity shortfall, ending circular debt and talks with militant groups had proved wrong, instead, load shedding had reached its peak, circular debt had crossed 450 billion in one year and militants had accelerated their attacks.

He announced to launch a ‘constitutional’ revolution in the country with the support of other political parties in order to de-seat the federal government led by Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N).

Adil said that except PML-N, they would contact other religious and political parties, including Pakistan People’s Party, to join hands with them in order to bring a constitutional change in the country through power of common man.

“These governments were elected through bogus polling, therefore, they were ignorant of difficulties faced by people,” he said, adding that their 10-point agenda focused on bringing change in the country.

Elaborating PML-Q 10-point agenda, he said that it comprised on end to corruption, end to civilian dictatorship and taking turns in government by particular political groups, housing schemes and interest-free loans schemes for homeless people, bring uniform education syllabus countrywide, peace training centers, end to corruption, eliminating utility taxes from people earning below Rs 15000, land to poor people, and loans for farmers.
