POA to extend full support for the promotion of softball: Arif Hasan

Karachi: Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Arif Hasan said POA would extend its full support for the promotion of softball in Pakistan.

“We will do our level best to organize international softball events in Pakistan. I will personally meet International Softball Federation President Dale McMann and Secretary Low Beng Choo and would try to convince them to send international coaches to Pakistan. POA is also ready to sponsor such events,” Arif Hasan said during a reception ceremony held in his honour by Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) Secretary Asif Azeem.

Arif also praised Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui for his efforts in reviving international events in Karachi.

On the occasion, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui, Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) Secretary Ahmed Ali Rajput, SFP Vice President Zeeshan Merchant, Imran Zaman and few others were also present.

“Softball is quickly getting recognition in the country. The efforts of the SFP President Haider Khan Lehri and Secretary Asif Azeem are laudable in this regard,” Arif added.

Meanwhile, Shoaib Siddiqui praised Arif Hasan for being re-elected for third time by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) as its South Asian Region Vice President. “This is not only an achievement for Arif Hasan but an achievement for all of Pakistan,” he said.

Shoaib added that he sees a bright future for the sport of softball in Pakistan. “We will extend our full support for the provision of a softball ground in Karachi for softball players,” he said.

SFP Secretary Asif said that Arif Hasan in the past has played important role in helping Pakistan getting recognition at international level in the world of softball.

“In order to prepare Pakistan national teams for international contests, coaches, umpires and players will be given opportunity to learn new techniques and rules of the game by conducting different courses.

“Our top priority is to lift the infrastructure of softball in the country and also to invite and host qualified foreign coaches to coach our players. The mission of SFP is to promote the game of softball equally in every city and district of the country,” Asif vowed.

“This would help us in develop and groom talent and subsequently produce world-class players,” he added.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Shoaib Siddiqui presented souvenir on behalf of SFP to Arif Hasan.
