Police fire teargas shell to disperse protestors

KARACHI: Police restored to baton-charging and teargas shelling to disperse protesting employees of Sindh Revenue Department (SRD) at Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Monday.

All Sindh Revenue Employees Action Committee (ASREAC) of SRD staged a protest in front of KPC for regularization of their jobs and raising the salary. The protesters were heading towards the Chief Minister House under the leadership of the Central leader of ASREAC Sardar Ahmed Shah.

However, as soon as they started leaving KPC, police baton charged them and fired several tear-gas shells to disperse the protesters. Meanwhile, a shell just landed in front of KPC main gate where many journalists including a lady reporter were standing to cover the protest.

Police also mistakenly beat up a male reporter, who along with the lady reporter was taken inside the KPC for first-aid. The main gate of KPC was locked for an hour after the incident to avoid any untoward situation. Later on, a senior police officer apologized for the ugly incident.
