KARACHI: Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police Iqbal Mehmood said on Wednesday that 10000 new police personnel would be recruited by the end of this year while Help Line 15 posts would be increased to 30.
He said this during his visit to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) office along with other high police officials. The IG said that business community was running the country through their taxes so it was the responsibility of government to provide them full security. “With available resources, police is trying its level best to secure businessman and industrial zones,” he said.
He said that Sindh police was ready to train private security guards of businessman free of cost but the arms and ammunitions would be provided by them.
He said that currently there were about 30000 police personnel in Karachi but out of them only 12000 to 13000 were deployed for maintaining law and order situation in the city and rest were engaged in other places.
“With this minor number of policeman, it is too difficult to control law and order situation in a city of around 20 million population but still we are doing our best for providing security to the public,” he said.
He said that government had allocated more funds for police in the new fiscal year budget, which would help improve the performance of police while 10000 more personnel would also be recruited by the end of this year.
He said that Police Held Line 15 was being revived in the city and so far 15 posts of the help line had been reopened while 15 more would also be established soon. He said that 150 motorcycles had been provided to the Help Line for patrolling.
