President: (Chinese- Pakistani leadership committed to timely completion of CPEC: President)

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the Chinese and Pakistani leadership is committed to timely completion of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, adding that this is a win-win scenario for both countries as it would benefit not only the two countries but also the entire region.

The President said this while talking to a Chinese delegation headed by Prof. Li Xiguang, Director Pakistan Culture and Communication centre, Tsinghua university, Beijing which called on him here at Aiwan-e-Sadr, on Monday.

The President noted that the revival of the Silk Road through CPEC is an important development as it would reinforce the historic and traditional cultural links between the two neighbourly countries.

He emphasized that people to people contacts and strengthening of cultural ties were extremely important for both countries and their people. He recalled his recent visit to China to attend the parade in Beijing marking the 70th anniversary of the victory in World War-II adding that as a gesture of solidarity, support and friendship a contingent of Pakistan Armed Forces also participated in the military parade.

The President appreciated the initiative taken by Pakistan China Institute with its Chinese partners, particularly Prof. Li Xiguang and Chairman Lin, to build a cultural corridor as well as an information corridor to support and supplement the CPEC.

‘These would increase contacts and relations between the two countries and the people of China and Pakistan’, remarked the President.

The President noted with appreciation that a unique and first of its kind cultural exhibition on the theme “Salam-Confucius” was being organized at Pak-China Friendship Centre which aims at promoting tenets and principles of great Chinese philosopher and at the same time highlighting convergences in Confucian and Islamic/Pakistani values and traditions. The President congratulated the organizers for arranging this exhibition and wished its success.

On the occasion, Mr. Lin Youwu, Chairman Bolin Group, China presented a turbaned figure of famous Chinese philosopher Confucius to President Mamnoon Hussain. Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman Senate Defence Committee and Pakistan China Institute was also present in the meeting.
