President: (Govt committed to welfare of minorities: President)

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has said people of Pakistan would stand guard for protection of minorities and leave no stone unturned for their welfare.

He was addressing a Christmas dinner reception here held in connection with the Christmas celebrations. It was also attended by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The President said Islamic teachings give clear direction to its followers to ensure protection of the minorities living in an Islamic state. He said the government is committed to the welfare of the minorities.

The President reiterated government’s resolve to promote interfaith harmony by ensuring legal and constitutional rights of the people. He warned that some elements were trying to disrupt the atmosphere of interfaith harmony but they would be dealt with an iron hand.

Speaking at a special ceremony ‘Quaid-e-Azam Aur Bache’, the President said it is new generation’s responsibility to safeguard democracy because only a democratic Pakistan could be a guarantee for the nation’s bright future.

He expressed his confidence that the nation would not desist from rendering any sacrifice to protect the country’s freedom, integrity and stability. The President stated that the purpose of commemorating Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday was to impress upon new generation that the country’s history was glorious and its future bright. He called upon the children to acquire maximum education, uphold their moral values and bring glory to the country.
