KARACHI: Professor of Neurology at Aga Khan University and President Pakistan Society of Neurology Prof Mohammad Wasay was awarded Fellowship of Pakistan Academy of Medical Sciences (PAMS).
It is one of the most prestigious awards in medical sciences in Pakistan. PAMS is an international society dedicated to promotion of research and health care in Pakistan established in 1975.Academy works under patronage of President of Pakistan. Fellowship of Academy is awarded to topmost Pakistani scientists working in the field of medicine and biomedical sciences.
Prof Mohammad Wasay was awarded this fellowship for his contribution toward promotion of neurological research and care in Pakistan. He is the first neurologist to become a fellow of PAMS. He is also the youngest scientists among all fellows of PAMS. Prof Wasay was recipient of junior researcher award and Gold medal at PAMS convocation 2004.
Governor Punjab Rafiq Rajwana awarded fellowships to five distinguished scientists at PAMS convocation held at Lahore University of Health Sciences. Other recipients included Prof Mukhtar (VC American University of Rasul Khaima, UAE), Prof Farhat Abbas (Dean, Aga Khan University), Khalid Hussain Janbaz (Ex- VC, Bahauddin Zakaria University, Multan) and Prof Ghulam Qadir Qazi (founder and CEO, ISRA University).
Governor Punjab Rafiq Rajwana said in his presidential address “Health issues are one of the major problems Pakistan is struggling especially poor people. Pakistani scientists and physicians have to come up with solutions to our problems. Pakistani doctors in Pakistan and abroad could contribute significantly to address health care issues Pakistani people are suffering. Punjab government is willing to help medical community in all domains. Our common goal is to serve people, specially underprivileged people of Pakistan.”
