Profiteers challaned in city

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Tuesday that action is under way to rid the people of profiteering.

He said during last 15 days 791 shopkeepers were challaned for over charging and they were fined Rs 1552500, while 62 profiteers were sent jail.

He said 382 milk sellers were challaned for overpricing and imposed fine of Rs 892500, 24 fruit sellers were challaned besides taking Rs 20500 fine from them, 26 vegetable sellers were challaned along with Rs 27500 fine, eight butchers were fined Rs 12000, 187 grocers were fined Rs 356500, and one bakery owner fined Rs 5000.

Siddiqui said the government is trying its level best to deliver relief to people.
