Profiteers fined Rs188200

KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 63 shopkeepers were charged with Rs188200 fine for selling commodities on above rate than fixed by the city administration.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at rates fixed by the administration.

He further said that city administration has focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Garden, Mauripur, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Orangi, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Model Colony, Bin Qasim and Airport.

In the crackdown, 37 milkmen, 6 shopkeepers of general commodities, 19 chicken sellers and a fruit seller have been fined on selling essential items on excessive prices, while, three persons were sent to jail for continuous violation.
