KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 93 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 229700 fine for selling commodities above government rates. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Civil Line, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Hyderi, Nazimabad, New Karachi, Shah Faisal, Landhi and Model Town.
In the crackdown, 56 milkmen, 20 shopkeepers of general commodities, 15 chicken sellers, two vegetable sellers and three fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while one person was sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
