Proper legislation must to increase immunization: minister

Karachi: Provincial Minister for Health Sindh Dr Sagheer Ahmed on Monday said the elimination of fatal diseases is impossible until the bringing routine immunization ratio to 95 percent and there was dire need of legislation in this regard.

He expressed these views while talking the delegation comprising representative of World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and GAVA at his Office. Dr Munir Faraq, Dr Irtaza Chaudhry, Dr Karsten Metal, Dr Anni Kosan, Secretary Health Iqbal Hussain Durrani, Project Director EPI Dr Mazhar Khamisani and other officials were also present on this occasion.

He said presently, there was 29 percent ratio of routine immunization due to which fatal disease prevalence were increasing. He said there was dire need of legislation to bound public for complete course of routine vaccination of their children. He said measles epidemic was prevalent in all provinces of country but only Sindh had initiated anti-measles drive which was good example for others.

Dr Saghir said vaccination was being continued in province despite poor law and order situation in some area of province. He applauded the role of WHO, UNICEF and GAVA and stressed the need of creation of awareness among society regarding the vaccination.

He further said all political, religious and other segments of society should work together and make sure that no any child was deprived of vaccination.
