Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai has said that the present provincial government is working on strengthening the existing medical institutions and infrastructure instead of constructing new buildings having no facilities adding that the all the tertiary care hospitals of the province are being given full autonomy for which necessary legislation has already been made.
Practical work is in progress to transform Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar into a state of the art medical institution on the pattern of Shaukat Khanum Hospital and Board of Governors for all the teaching hospitals will be formed very soon.
He was talking to media persons during his visit to a free medical camp at Peshawar Press Club which was arranged by the press club in collaboration with Young Doctors Association.
The Provincial Minister said that he had taken over the charge of the health department working in a very poor and dilapidated condition but he is not only committed but also taking result-oriented steps to bring about positive changes in this sector upto the expectations and needs of the general masses adding that the faults of 65 years cannot be rectified overnight rather it will take some times to put things in the right directions.
“I have no personal agenda but to bring about positive change in the health service delivery outlets as per expectations of the general masses”, maintained Shahram Khan and added neither he himself will do anything wrong nor will let anybody also do something wrong.
Replying to a question by media persons, the provincial minister said when he took over as minister, Health Regulatory Authority was a totally inactive and disfunctional body and now it has been revamped through legislation and renamed as Health Care Commission which has just started crackdown against illegal clinics/laboratories, spurious drugs and unqualified medical practitioners across the province without any discrimination as it is now a fully autonomous body free of political interference.
Earlier, Shahram visited the free medical camp and appreciated the role of the press club and the young doctors association to provide free medical treatment to journalist’s community under one roof.
