Rafique Shaheed Road carpeted

KARACHI: The carpeting of Rafique Shaheed Road passing in front of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) was completed on Wednesday and the road opened for vehicular traffic.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui reviewed the carpeting work and lauded the joint efforts of Karachi Cantonment Board, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board and the district municipal corporation. He directed KWSB to take care of drainage system along the road.

He expressed hope that the road would provide ease to the traffic as it was an important street linked with Shahra-e-Faisal.

The commissioner said the traffic on the road had been facing severe trouble for long due to the damaged underground sewerage line which had been oozing out sewerage water which damaged the road.

He said the road had been opened after repairing it with SR cement, while PC-I for changing the underground sewerage line had also been approved. The sewerage line would be changed after reimbursement of the funds and then re-carpeting would be done.

Siddiqui said chief minister Sindh and commander Karachi had directed to provide citizens relief.

He admitted that due to lack of coordination among different organizations the instalment of sewerage line got late.
