SIALKOT: The Regional Tax Directorate Gujranwala on Tuesday freezed the bank accounts of 15 more chronic tax defaulters, besides imposing ban on the sale, purchase and transfer of 25 more luxury vehicles for the non-payment of their taxes and token taxes, besides, concealing the facts about their sources of income and properties while submitting their tax returns before the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
These defaulters belonged to Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts. FBR has also issued the arrest warrants of as many as 18 traders and industrialists turned chronic defaulters for not paying their taxes since long, besides, giving a three-day dead line to 10 other defaulters for clearing their dues, in this regard.
On the special directives issued by the Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue Gujranwala Mansur Ahmed Bajwa, the special teams of FBR led by Sheikh Muneer Ahmed (Inland Revenue Officer), contacted the local banks for freezing the accounts of the above-mentioned chronic defaulters and FBR would draw the defaulted amounts from the freezed accounts to recover their outstanding arrears.
FBR officials added the cases of 28 more chronic defaulters were also ready and the banks would also freeze their accounts soon. Earlier, the FBR had freezed the bank accounts of as many as 30 traders and industrialists turned chronic defaulters a week ago, in this regard.
According to the Waqas Aslam (Additional Commissioner Income Tax Gujranwala) the arrests of the above-mentioned defaulters would be started very soon, if they remained unable to pay their outstanding dues.
