Remand extended in Laraib kidnapping case

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday extended the remand of an accused, Rehmat Gul, to police custody till 6th March 2015 in Laraib kidnapping case.

Police produced the accused before the ATC judge under tight security. The investigation officer requested the court to allow the further physical remand of the accused as he was still required for investigation. IO requested the court that police needed his physical remand of the accused to map out the location of his absconding accomplices. The court accepted the police request and extended the remand of the accused to their custody till 6th March.

According to prosecution, Gul along with his accomplices involved in kidnapping of Laraib on 26 January 2015 and demanding ransom of Rs2,000,000 from his family for his safe release. However, the accused freed him on January 27 without receiving the ransom money.

The accused was arrested in a joint raid conducted by Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) on 5th February.
