Rioting case: MQM’s Akhter, Rizvi get pre-arrest bails

KARACHI: The Judicial Magistrate on Thursday granted interim pre-arrest bails to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders Waseem Akhter and Haider Abbas Rizvi in a case pertaining to rioting and violating Loud Speaker Act.

Earlier, on Wednesday non-bailable warrants (NBWs) were issued against Dr Farooq Sattar, Waseem Akhter and Haider Abbas Rizvi, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Wasay Jalil, Faisal Sabzwari, Nasreen Jalil, Kanwar Naveed Jameel and Kamal Pasha for rioting and misuse of a loud speaker during party’s rally on 26th October last year, which was took out without seeking administration’s permission.

On Thursday, Akhter and Rizvi approached the local court to obtain the pre-arrest bails from where both the leaders were granted bails against the surety bonds of Rs 10,000 each.

The case FIR 416/2015 was registered at Soldier Bazaar police station under sections 147( punishment for rioting), 149( every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) for rioting and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The section 6/7 was also included in the FIR for violating loud speaker act.

According to FIR, as many as 2000 workers of MQM gathered at MA Jinnah Road to protest against the law enforcers on 26th October 2015 and caused hurdles for the people.

It is pertinent to mention here that besides above mentioned case, MQM’s mayoral candidate Waseem Akhter had also been booked in infamous Dr Asim’s terrorists treatment case, several cases for listening and arranging hate speeches of his leader against the national security agencies and two cases for inciting people for the violence.
