KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday was informed that provincial finance department had released Rs 20 million compensation for Lyari Expressway project affectees.
Ahmed Pirzada, counsel for Sindh Revenue department, placed before the bench, headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar, a letter issued by finance department for releasing an amount Rs 20 million for compensation.
The bench was seized with the hearing of a petition filed by Muhammad Sharif and other residents of Jamshed Town, whose land was acquired for Lyari Expressway project. They pleaded the court to order provincial authorities to make payment of compensation to them.
Advocate General Sindh Abdul Fatah Malik and Pirzada assured the court that petitioners’ due payment shall be made within a week from today. Following their assurance, the court disposed of the petition and warned them to make payments as committed or else contempt proceedings shall be initiated against them.
