Rulers criticized for inaction on Aafia issue

Karachi: Pasban Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor here Thursday demanded that the release of the daughter of the nation Dr Aafia Siddiqui should be sought before freeing FBI agent, arrested recently in Karachi fir carrying illegal ammunition.

He said as per media reports Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent with identity of Joel Cox was arrested from Karachi airport as he was going to Islamabad with 15 bullets a magazine for 9-mm pistol in his bag. He said the nation still remembers the case of CIA contractor Raymond Davis who was also set free, despite he had murdered Pakistani citizens in Lahore.

Pasban leader said the government of Pakistan seems bending knees before the US pressure to free its citizens who violate laws in Pakistan, but it is not raising a strong voice for the release of the daughter of the nation, Dr Aafia Siddiqui. He said the present government got votes after promising the nation that it would ensure Aafia freedom after coming into power. The rulers also promised the Aafia family that the Pakistani mother would be home before the year 2014; however, saving promises and statements the government of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has done nothing for the release of innocent Aafia. He said this lack of action is also affecting integrity and credibility of the rulers.

Altaf Shakoor once again demanded that Dr Aafia should be released before the release of the FBI agent, arrested in Karachi. He said if the rulers also failed this time to ensure release of Aafia the nation would not forgive them.
