Saddar witnesses yet another anti-encroachment drive

KARACHI: The Anti Encroachments department of Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Tuesday carried out a operation in Saddar jurisdiction in which dozens of pushcarts, patharas, iron stands and counters were removed from the main road and pavements to clear the way for vehicular traffic. However, the roadside encroachers after the operation moved to the nearby CDGK car parking plaza and carried out their business there with impunity

According to a KMC release, encroachments were removed from both sides of Abdullah Haroon Road and Zainab Market under the supervision of deputy commissioner South Saleem Rajput and director anti encroachments KMC Mazhar Khan who along with other officers monitored the action.

On the other hand, Local Taxes (Advertisement) Department of KMC, on the directives of Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui started its campaign against defaulted signages all over the city. The staff of local taxes in three days (1st to 3rd Aug 2015) removed a total of 97 such signages from eight locations.

In Saddar Zone local taxes staff removed two signage from Regal Chowk area and one signage each from Metropole Hotel Parking and Wall. In Gulshan Zone, 10 pylons from NIPA and 20 pole Sign from Agha Khan Road were removed. In North Nazimabad Zone a signage was removed at King Burger whereas in Korangi Zone, the local taxes staff removed 30 Pole Sign from Causeway. Besides this 32 defaulted signage from different zones of the city were also removed by the department.

Senior Director Land & Anti Encroachments Bilal Manzar, following the directives of Administrator Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, held a meeting with all the deputy directors of anti encroachments to chalk out a comprehensive strategy for removal of encroachments in the city in which he expressed his concern on the increase of encroachments in the city and said that the further plan in this regard will be implemented after the approval of the Administrator.

In meeting, all the deputy directors were instructed to speed up their efforts in this connection or action will be taken against those officers who would fail to remove the encroachments or making full recovery.
