Sajjan union call for empowering upcoming mayor

KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Sajjan Union on on Tuesday showed grave concern over non-authorized role of upcoming mayor of Karachi and demanded of Sindh government to empower the mayor and local government.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Sajjan Union leader Syed Zulfiqar Shah and Captain Shabbir Jadoon criticized the Sindh government for making a policy to ruin KMC and not giving due power to upcoming mayor.

The union leaders alleged that the provincial government was trying to take under control solid waste management, parks, amusement places, and other local government institutions in a bid to privatize them.

Shah said that in order to destabilize KMC, Sindh government was not releasing due funds, while staff salaries and other dues could not be paid since several months.

Sajjan union demanded of the Sindh government to empower the upcoming mayor, restore octroi tax and give opportunities to KMC for generating funds on its own. They also demanded that all problems facing KMC employees should be resolved and salaries be released.
