SC verdict on Urdu status greeted

KARACHI: Leaders of Tehreek-e-Nafaz-e-Urdu on Monday lauded the former Chief Justice of Supreme Court Justice (retired) Jawwad S Khawaja for issuing order to adopt and implement Urdu language as official language of Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Tehreek-e-Nafaz-e-Urdu leader Naseem Anjum said court order for implementing the article 521 of constitution, has proved the value of Urdu language for government offices.

He said it is now government’s responsibility to act upon the court order issued in shape of nine points and implement them immediately. He said the people will be facilitated with benefits of Urdu language and it would help people especially youth to become more familiar with their national language.

He asked the provincial governments to promote their regional languages as their official languages.
