Senate: (Senators call for national unity against terrorism)

ISLAMABAD: Senators on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorists attack on Charsadda University and stressed the need for a counter-terrorism solidarity.

They said like December 16, January 20 is also a black day in the history of Pakistan. They demanded in-camera briefing to the Senate on implementation of National Action Plan. They said National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) should be activated.

They were of the view that peace in Afghanistan is imperative for peace in Pakistan. They emphasized that the unity among the nation is must to eliminate terrorism.

Those who spoke on the incident include Sitara Ayaz, Sherry Rehman, Maulana Ataur Rehman, Azam Swati and others. The Chair in his remarks said continuous oversight of Parliament on counter-terrorism efforts is a way forward to eliminate the menace.

He asked leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq to talk to the Government for formation of a Parliamentary Committee on National Security.

Later, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution expressing deep sense of sorrow and grief over the barbaric and dastardly attack on Bacha Khan University.
