Senior Minister LG bids farewell to outgoing GIZ team leader

Peshawar: KP Senior Minister for Local Govt, Elections and Rural Development (LGE&RD) Inayatullah Khan while appreciating the viable role of German donor agency GIZ in its practical cooperation for development of the province and introducing reforms in various sectors, has said that the fruits of the sincere efforts of KP government for elimination of corruption and introducing maximum transparency in the officialdom are ripe and being harvested now that, he asserted, restored confidence of the people and donor agencies in developmental policies of the provincial government.

He expressed the confidence that friendly countries including Germany would continue extending support to KP government under Strategic Development Partnership Framework (SDPF) to enable it achieve its 8 goals viz durable peace, supremacy of law, increasing economic and job opportunities, promotion of basic health and education, gender harmony, enhancing financial resource base, strengthening of transparency and accountably process and ensuring active participation of people in governmental and developmental affairs.

He was addressing the farewell ceremony in honour of the outgoing GIZ team leader for Local Government Philipp Niehenke at local hotel in Peshawar. On this occasion the GIZ head of good governance program Ms. Catherine Isabel Froehling, the incoming team leader Christian Kapfensteiner and officers of local government department also deliberated upon who lauded contributions of the outgoing team leader and highlighted the developmental targets, priorities and achievements of KP government in various sectors. The GIZ representatives specially eulogized the transparency policy of provincial government, its candid steps against corruption and judicious use of foreign aid.

Senior Minister thanked the friendly countries and donors including GIZ for support in realizing developmental goals of the provincial government adding that besides other sectors, we considered local government systems a key to solving problems of the masses and ensuring development at gross roots level. He said that provincial government allocated over 30% of its own resources for the district, tehsil and village councils to enable them prove its capability.

He said that comparison of KP Local Government Act with that of other provinces would reveal that mockery was being made with importance of local government systems in other provinces.

He said now we have also evolved stringent strategy for training of the newly elected LG representatives, admin facilities and catering its other needs including municipal machinery wherein help of donors would be highly appreciated, he added.

Inayatullah on this occasion gave traditional gifts of KP government to the outgoing GIZ team leader and hoped that his incumbent would also prove his wealth and would contribute in progress of this province and prosperity of its people.
