SFP organizes Softball C’ships from Oct 18

Karachi: Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) is organizing National Men’s Softball Championship and Women’s U-19 Championship simultaneously from October 18-21 in Rawalpindi. Teams of Police, Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad will be participating in Men’s Championship.

The decision to hold the two evens was taken in the meeting of SFP held under the chairmanship of its President Mohammad Salim Khan. SFP Secretary General Haider Khan Lehri, Head Coach Asif Azeem, Chief Selector Maroof-ul-Hasan, President Sindh Softball Association Jahangir Mughal, Secretary Balochistan Softball Association Naseem Khan and Secretary Karachi Softball Association Zeeshan Merchant were also present on the occasion.

Salim Khan said that SFP has been endeavoring to strengthen the infrastructure of softball in the country and for that purpose it has been promoting the game of softball at school, college and district level.

Secretary Haider Khan said that this year in December, Pakistan women U-19 team will participate in Junior Women’s Softball Championship.

“Pakistan men’s team will also compete in Asian Men’s Softball Qualifier Round in Singapore. The event would serve as qualifying round for next year’s World Men’s Softball Championship, which would be held in Canada,” he added.

Meanwhile, Asif Azeem said that the holding of the two national events would help the federation identify talented players, which would subsequently help them form quality teams for upcoming international tournaments.

“A camp would soon be organized for top performing players of the championships, where the talented players would get a chance to learn new and innovative techniques, rules and regulations of the game,” he said.

Chief Selector Maroof said the federation has been doing its best to form strong national outfits, which could perform well in the international circuit and bring laurels for the country.
