KARACHI: Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Culture Sharmila Farooqui on Tuesday distributed cheques among 50 deserving artists at her office.
Talking to media after the 12th endowment fund committee meeting, Sharmila said that the amount of Rs 13,250,000 would be distributed among 132 artists in Sindh province. “Fifty artists in Karachi were given away cheques today while others will be sent cheques through post office,” she said.
The advisor said that several artists had applied for funds but the endowment fund committee comprising Secretary Culture Ijaz Memon, Director General Culture Manzoor Kanasro, Salahuddin Tunio, Naseer Baig Mirza, Sarfaraz Rajar, Mustufa Qureshi and Abdul Hameed Sindhi selected the names of deserving artists.
The artists that received cheques include Mir Mohammad Lakho, Saleem Shahzad, Abdullah Panwar, Amanat Ali Mughal, Najma Kunwal, Gulab Chandio, Seema Khatoon, Kishwar Sultana, Shahnaz Parveen, Bhatti, Arshad Warsi, Mehmood Rasheed, Nasreen Naz and others.
Sharmila set aside the perception that the funds were distributed among the supporters of the Pakistan people’s Party and other artists were neglected. The adviser said that she was not responsible for approving names for needy artists and it was endowment fund committee having representation from public and private sector who approved funds for needy artists.
