SHC appoints official to check illegal structures

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday appointed its Nazir as commissioner for inspection of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Sports Complex at Kashmir road, where illegal structures, including marriage hall were set up.

The petitioner, Muslimabad Co-operative Housing Society, has taken Chief Secretary Sindh, KMC administrator, Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and Board of Revenue to the court, requesting it to order relevant authorities to demolish structures, including marriage hall lawn inside the complex, which were built illegally.

The petitioner submitted that KMC Sports Complex was used for recreational activities by residents of neighbouring areas and a large number of women visit the complex for jogging, walking and other activities. It was stated that members of land grabbers in collusion with officials have encroached upon the part of complex and built illegal structures inside the complex.

However, the KMC’s counsel declined presence of any kind of encroachment on the premises of the complex. In order to ascertain the factual positions, two-judge bench appointed its Nazir to inspect the premises of complex and take photographs of it.
