KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the deputy inspector general of police (DIGP) South to conduct fair and transparent enquiry into the allegation of killing of a detainee in a fake encounter by the paramilitary forces.
This direction came on a petition filed by Fazul-ur-Rehman, who had moved the court seeking recovery of his nephew 17-year-old Ahmed Sharif.
The petitioner submitted that personnel of law enforcement agencies had raided the house of Sharif in Shah Baig Lane area of Lyari and took him away and since then his whereabouts were unknown to his family.
He said that he had approached the higher officer of the law enforcement agencies but they did not disclose his whereabouts nor did they produce him in any court of law. Subsequently, he said, he approached the SHC seeking his recovery from the unlawful detention of paramilitary forces.
Later, he said, he learnt Sharif was killed in an encounter by the Rangers personnel. He alleged that Rangers personnel killed his nephew in fake encounter and pleaded to the court to order an investigation into the killing of his brother and order police to register a case against the personnel.
