SHC directs KMC to remove encroachment from park plot

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday once again directed KMC to remove encroachments from an amenity plot in Gulistan-e-Johar Karachi. It ordered SSP East and DSR Rangers to provide force required for this purpose

Earlier the court several times had directed the relevant authority to remove the encroachments; however, KMC was not able to do so due to unavailability of police force.

On Tuesday’s hearing KMC’s counsel stated that they are ready to remove encroachment, but due to unavailability of force they could not obey the court order. ”Whenever an attempt was made to remove encroachments, law and order situation was created by the encroachers,” KMC’s counsel stated. He requested the court to provide proper police force for this purpose.

The court directed SSP East and DSR Rangers to assist the respondents and provide the required force so that the order passed by the court could be complied with. The court directed KMC to furnish a comprehensive report within 15 days.

SHC bench was hearing a petition filed by residents of the area who took KMC anti-encroachment department, KDA and others to the court against encroachments made on the plot allotted for a park.

The petitioners, Rukhsana Bano, Junaid Ahmed and others stated that KMC had allotted the land for amenity purpose; however, some encroachers unlawfully occupied it and started construction on it.

They requested the court to direct the respondent to demolish the encroachments and take strict action against the land grabbers.
