SHC orders KBSB to submit report on illegal hydrants

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday directed Managing Director of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) to submit a comprehensive report regarding the closure of illegal water hydrants in the city.

SHC bench was hearing a petition filed by Rana Faizul Hasan, general secretary of a NGO, seeking closure of illegal water hydrants in the metropolis.

On Wednesday’s hearing SHC directed MD KWSB to submit a comprehensive report to inform the court what action has been taken by the department regarding the closure of illegal water hydrants. The court sought the report within 15 days.

The petitioner had submitted that ‘water mafia’ through illegal hydrants is being allowed to sell water to citizens at exorbitant rates. He stated that Karachiites are experiencing acute shortage of water due to illegal water hydrants.

The petitioner pleaded the court to direct the responds to take action against these illegal hydrants and make their closure as soon as possible. He also requested the court to direct KW$SB to allow water filling in allotted timings at the governments’ hydrants.
