KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) repeated notice to secretary interior ministry and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general to file their respective comments on a petition of former National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) chairman against harassment by FIA authorities.
Ayaz Khan Niazi former NICL chairman moved the court stating that he had invested Rs2 billion with the JS Investment Limited, but the FIA initiated an inquiry into the company’s investments in December 2013 and a case was also lodged against him and others at the FIA’s corporate circle crimes police station.
He said that the Supreme Court has transferred to NAB all the proceedings and cases pertaining to the NICL investment scam pending before the FIA for further investigation. Since the investigation into NICL scam had been transferred to the NAB, the FIA authorities are still harassing him.
He said that notice was issued by the FIA to him for personal appearance for interrogation dated June 17 but summons are illegal and violation of the provisions of the FIA Act 1974 since the authority has nothing to do with the matter following the inquiry transfer to the NAB. The court was pleaded to restrain the FIA authorities and their subordinates from pressuring and harassing the petitioner.
The court issued notice to secretary interior ministry and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general for September 19. The court also directed the FIA sub-inspector investigating case against petitioner to appear before it along with relevant record.
