Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued notice to chief secretary Sindh, managing director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), city police chief and other official respondents to file comments on a petition against illegal water hydrants being operated in different parts of the city.
A division bench headed by Justice Irfan Saddat Khan also issued notice to provincial law officer to file comments in response to the petition and adjourned hearing of the case till May 20.
The petitioner, Sohail Ali Arain, drew attention of the court to issue of illegal hydrants and water shortage, stating that illegal hydrants were being operated in the city but no satisfactory action was taken against the owners of hydrants and officials of KWSB involved in such activities.
FIRs were lodged against the owners of illegal hydrants but they invariably went unpunished due to collusion of officials concerned, he said and added that many hydrants were running in the parts of city, causing water shortage.
The bench was pleaded to order relevant authorities to eliminate the illegal hydrants and punish persons involved in such illegal menace.
