SHC suspends termination order of HESCO XEN

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday suspended the termination order of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) executive engineer till the next hearing.

Executive engineer HESCO Imtiyaz Ahmed Qureshi was terminated by the company on charges of embezzlement of Rs 46.3 million. In a departmental inquiry, Qureshi was found involved in making bogus adjustments of bills of millions of rupees. He was suspended in February 2015 and later terminated from his post in August.

The terminated HESCO executive engineer for Kotri filed a petition in the Sindh High Court through his counsel, Farogh Naseem, and named WAPDA, PEPCO and HESCO as respondents.

The petitioner pleaded the court that he was appointed in BS-17 in 1987 and then promoted into BS-18 in 2010. He said that he was suspended on 12th February 2015 without any show-cause notice and later terminated on the charges of corruption. He pleaded himself innocent.

On Monday’s hearing SHC bench suspended the impugned order of terminating Qureshi but such suspension will not restore him to the post which he was holding. According to the order, the suspension will not restore him to the post which he was holding but in respect of emolument of services he will be entitled to the same until the directions of the court.

The hearing was adjourned till 31st August.
