SHC takes notice of lawyer’s murder

KARACHI: Taking notice of murder of a senior lawyer, who was also a member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Legal Aid Committee, Sindh High Court Chief (SHC) Justice on Wednesday issued notice to federal and provincial law officers to submit reports of the authorities.

SHC Chief Justice Faisal Arab converted into constitutional petition a letter addressed to him by SHC Bar Association through which it requested the CJ to direct the authorities concerned to investigate the incident and arrest culprits behind lawyer’s murder.

Advocate Ali Hasnain Bukhari was targeted and killed by unknown motorcyclists outside his residence in Korangi early this morning.

SHCBA’s letter stated that Bukhari was brutally murder while he was going to SHC to pursue his cases. “This is heinous crime and an attempt to undermine judicial system and independent legal community”, said the letter.

It pleaded to the CJ to take notice of the incident and direct the law enforcers to bring the killers to justice. The court was further prayed to direct the provincial government to pay Rs20 million compensation to legal heirs of the advocate.
