SHOs to be posted on merit: IGP

KARACHI: In a high level meeting held here under the chairmanship of IGP Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali, it was decided that the Station House Officers (SHOs) will be posted purely on their performance, eligibility and subject to approval by a five-member board.

Additional IGP Karachi shall act as Chairman of the board where as DIG West Zone, DIG South Zone, DIG East Zone, DIG Administration Karachi Police will be the members of the said board. Input from special branch will also be duly considered by the board.

IGP Sindh while reviewing the performance of SHOs in detail directed Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo to immediately remove those SHOs where in their jurisdiction, narcotics dens are operating and other social evils are prevalent. He also directed DIG special branch to immediately initiate exercise to verify the antecedents of all posted SHOs and submit report at the earliest so that the incompetent and corrupt elements could be taken to task.

The meeting was attended by Additional IG Karachi, DIG HQ, DIG Special branch, DIG CTD, Zonal DIGs & District SSPs. During the meeting which was held at CPO today, Jamali observed that the sole purpose of the meeting was to ensure reforms in the existing policing system and posting of upright and competent officers. It was also decided that those SHOs who would have been removed on serious charges must be black listed for future posting.

IGP further directed Additional IG Karachi to convene regular meetings with the Zonal DIGs & District SSPs to assess the performance of SDPOs, SHOs and SIOs for bringing improvement in general policing. He also directed to promote and strengthen community policing measures to raise the public confidence and support.
