Peshawar: A comprehensive and effective Polio Vaccination campaign (Sihat Ka Ittihad) to eradicate polio from Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and FATA will be launched by 13th instant.
This campaign will be launched simultaneously in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA to reach each and every child in the area with special focus on IDPs’ children and uncovered areas of FATA and settled areas.
A high level meeting to review the preparations and challenges of this campaign was held in Islamabad on Saturday with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Chair.
The meeting was attended by Minister Heath Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahram Khan Tarakai, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Secretary Health, secretary Home and Tribal Affairs and other concerned high ups of FATA secretariat and the provincial government. The meeting was also attended by Pakistan Tehrik-e- Insaf Chairman Imran Khan.
The participants of the meeting were given a detailed briefing on various aspects of the campaign with special focus on the challenges confronting. It was pointed out that security in Tribal areas and the bordering settled areas was a big issue.
The participants were told that during the entire campaign seven rounds of polio vaccination would be carried to ensure access to all uncovered areas both in FATA and KP with proper care of quality vaccination. Special arrangements for polio vaccination will also be made on each and every transit point of the province and the adjoining tribal areas.
It was further told that community mobilization and participation would be ensured at a maximum possible level to make the campaign a real success and for this purpose the services of elected representatives, ulemas, opinion leaders, volunteers and media would be benefited to the utmost. It was decided that in order to finalize all the preparations and security arrangements a high level meeting of the concerned high ups of Pak Army, provincial government and FATA secretariat would soon be convened. It was informed that 11 Corps of the Pak Army has already assured maximum security for the purpose.
Addressing the participants of the meeting PTI chairman, Imran khan said that this campaign is a joint effort of the provincial and federal government and, despite many political differences; both the governments are at same page on the issue and fully committed to make it a success story.
He showed his resolve that with the commitment and coordination of both the governments this campaign will be much stronger than the previous ones and will achieve its set targets. Imran khan said that wherever need arises the services of PTI volunteers could be benefitted for the purpose. The meeting decided that the campaign would be launched in the province on 13th February from Punj Peer Sawbi.
