KARACHI: The Provincial Minister for Food Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Monday said that wheat was being distributed among drought affected families of Thar under government relief operation in two separate phases.
Presiding over a meeting at his office, Dahar said that six lakh sacks of wheat were available in government godowns in Sanghar and Umarkot of which 69 thousand from Umerkot and 32952 sacks from Sanghar were allocated for the affected families.
“Previously, upon directions of chief minister, over one lakh 26 thousands sacks of wheat were delivered to the relief department,” he said.
About distribution and delivery of sacks, he said that the local administration was responsible for distribution arrangements; however, the food department would ensure the supply of wheat to relief department.
Moreover, he ruled out scarcity of wheat in the province, adding, 4 lakh 60 thousand wheat sacks were stocked in Sanghar and one lakh 16 thousand and 804 sacks of wheat were available in Umerkot granaries.
“In first phase, one lakh 26 thousand sacks of wheat were distributed and 102127 sacks would be distributed in second phase,” he remarked while discussing government strategy.
He further said that wheat of worth Rs 32 crores was being delivered to relief department by Sindh government for Thar drought affectees in the second phase.
